Rock the Block Dance was established in 2008. We began as a small dance studio renting the AFL club house at Harrington Park which began our journey of passion for teaching children the art of dance.
In 2011, we moved into a building in Smeaton Grange. We grew from running classes 5 days per week in one studio, to running 5 days per week in two studios. Our dance classes include Ballet, Jazz, Tap, Hip hop, Cheerleading, Lyrical, Contemporary, Stretch and Technique, conditioning classes, Musical Theatre, Boys only Hip Hop, acrobatics classes and specialist Tiny Tots classes.
Over the years, our students have been involved in many community events and performances which include local school fetes, Sydney Royal Easter Show, Lipstick Luncheon which raises money for Mater Dei, Ingham Institute women’s Luncheon, Sydney Roosters NRL games and Christmas in Narellan.
By the end of 2017 growth in student enrolments meant we had outgrown our existing premise. Though presenting a challenge, an opportunity arose that diversified our offering through the addition of a Circus school. We also added Contortion and 3 aerial styles which includes Silks, Lyra and Hammock, all of which are emerging styles in the industry.
2018 was our 10th year anniversary and we walked away as the winners of the Camden/Wollondilly Performation Arts Studio of the year.
In 2020, the Covid 19 pandemic hit our shores and closed our doors. RTB was completely remodeled and all classes transferred to LIVE online classes. Our RTB family showed resilience during this time and supported each other by continuing taking classes and staying connected with our community.
This time was also an opportunity to reflect on what Rock the Block Dance and Circus represents. After much thought, principal Robyn Parras looked upon the journey that has been and looked forward to what is. Our dance family has grown, our students continue to flourish and all of students display exceptional qualities and abilities. When looking at the evolution of RTB, it was only fitting that moving forward, we needed a NEW name that represented our students – Prodigy. In 2020, this is where we evolved into PRODIGY PERFORMING ARTS.
It is very important to us that our teachers play a pivotal role in your child’s life as a student at Prodigy Performing Arts. Our faculty are friendly, approachable, bubbly, experienced and are committed to your child’s growth in our encouraging and positive class environment. . We pride ourselves on quality dance and circus education as well as growing your child’s confidence and allowing them to shine in their own lane
